Big innings propel Cougars over Rattlers

APPPLETON, Wis. - The Kane County Cougars utilized three 4-run innings to earn a seven-inning, rain-shortened 12-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers that completed a series sweep at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday.

The Cougars (18-19) are 12-6 on the road and within a game of .500 for the first time since the beginning of the season.

The Cougars' Marty Herum delivered a two-out, bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning and later scored on a wild pitch. An inning later, Victor Reyes drove home 3 runs with a triple to give the Cougars an 8-1 lead.

Touki Toussaint, the Arizona Diamondbacks' first-round draft pick in 2014, made his Midwest League debut for the Cougars. The right-hander worked 4 innings, allowing 2 runs with 6 strikeouts. Nick Baker (1-2) earned the win, pitching the fifth inning.

In the seventh, back-to-back doubles by Colin Bray and Victor Reyes increased the lead to 9-2. Grant Heyman collected the Cougars' third triple of the game that brought home Reyes. Joe Munoz capped the surge with his second home run of the season,

The Cougars continue their road trip with a four-game series in Beloit starting today at 6:15 p.m. when they send Ethan Elias (3-1, 0.76 ERA) against Dustin Driver.
