Glen Ellyn man charged with assaulting deputy at jail

A Glen Ellyn man, already wanted by U.S. marshals, is being held on $100,000 bail in DuPage County after he was accused of assaulting a deputy sergeant in the jail.

Mohammad Khan, 33, of the 2N500 block of Pleasant Avenue in Glen Ellyn, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery of a peace officer.

Prosecutors said Khan was booked late Thursday on the misdemeanor weapons charge when he lunged at Sgt. Enrique Caucna and struck him in the face with a closed fist. Khan, they said, was subdued by a stun gun.

Sheriff's officials said Caucna was treated and released from Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

Prosecutors said Khan was arrested about 5:55 p.m. Thursday and accused of having a concealed pistol with a fully loaded magazine. Later Thursday evening, Khan is said to have struck Caucna as Caucna opened the booking cell that held Khan.

U.S. district attorney's officials could not be reached for comment to explain the federal no bond hold.

Khan's arraignment is scheduled for June 8 in courtroom 4010.
