Shoot hoops or explore Spring Valley during days off

Children home from school on June 1 will find plenty to do at Schaumburg Park District facilities.

The park district's open gym schedule includes:

• Youth open basketball from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way.

• Open basketball from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road.

Open gym is free to fitness pass-holders at facilities. For non-member residents, the fee is $4 for youths at the CRC and Meineke and $5 at Schaumburg Tennis Plus. For non-member, non-resident youths, the fee is $8 at the CRC and Meineke and $9 at STP.

Spring Valley features three miles of handicapped-accessible hiking trails, a nature center with natural history displays and an 1880s living history farm. Visitors will learn about nature and local history while exploring fields, forests, marshes and streams.

Spring Valley grounds are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Nature Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
