Travel back to the 1880s at the Spring Valley Country Fair

Experience the charm of a community farm fair during the late 19th century.

Schaumburg Park District will host the 2nd annual Spring Valley Country Fair, sponsored by Davey Tree. Visitors will enjoy fair activities noon to 4 p.m, June 7 at Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road.

"Country Fairs were a fun experience in the 19th century," said Patty Kennedy, farm program coordinator. "There would be all kinds of people showing off animals, baked goods and farm equipment."

Stop by the livestock and domestic tents to find out who won blue ribbons and learn about the different animals on display. Interpretive staff will discuss the breeds and why certain animals would win a blue ribbon.

Visit the 19th century farm equipment salesman for a demonstration on how the latest and greatest machinery will help out with chores. A medicine man will be on hand informing participants of his elixir to help cure what ails you.

Children also will enjoy carnival games and the bake sale table.
