Cavs eliminate low-scoring Bulls

Describing the Bulls' season-ending blowout loss against Cleveland isn't easy.

Was it more surprising or disappointing that the Bulls barely brought any effort to the second half. Everything was going fine for the home team until the Cavaliers finished the first half on a 20-4 run and pulled out to a 14-point halftime lead. The Cavs then cruised to a 94-73 victory in Game 6 at the United Center.

The Bulls got Pau Gasol back from a hamstring injury and Cavs guard Kyrie Irving didn't play in the second half after injuring his left leg. But the story of this game was the Bulls' incompetent offense. They scored 29 point in the second and third quarters combined.

The Bulls headed into the fourth quarter with a manageable 73-60 deficit, but never made up any ground as Cleveland had a big night from behind the 3-point line, hitting 12 of 25 attempts. The Cavs advanced to the Eastern Conference finals by winning the series 4-2.

So what does this mean for the Bulls' future? Probably not much in regard to player personnel. The Bulls will re-sign restricted free agent Jimmy Butler and plan on moving Doug McDermott to a primary role.

The future of coach Tom Thibodeau is the biggest question. He's one of the all-time leaders in winning percentage. But with the well-publicized friction between Thibodeau and the Bulls' front office, will the playoff loss prompt a change? Ultimately, Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf will have to agree to any plan to change coaches.

Butler led the Bulls with 20 points, while Derrick Rose scored 14. Gasol finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

Matthew Dellavedova led Cleveland with 19 points.
