Wauconda's Wedl fans 19 in no-hitter
Kayla Wedl fired a no-hitter, striking out a career-high 19 batters, as Wauconda's softball team blanked visiting Stevenson 3-0 in a North Suburban Conference crossover Thursday.
Stevenson had only two batters reach base, both via dropped-third strikes.
Wedl (2-for-3) and Mallory Carver both doubled, as Wauconda (21-10) won its seventh game in a row and 10th in its last 11.
Brooke Sefcik singled in Wedl in the first inning, and Carver doubled home a pair of runs in the third.
Lakes 9, Mundelein 8: Cassidy Schaar went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Ashley Horner was 3-for-4 with an RBI, as the host Eagles captured the North Suburban crossover.
Molly Dietz and Jen Reed doubled for Lakes. Reed and Rachel Becker (3 runs) each contributed a pair of hits. Ally Perdue went the distance in the circle, allowing 3 earned runs.
Mundelein (23-7) got 2 hits apiece from Maddie Zazas (2 runs, RBI), Maggie Mahar (2 RBI) and Jordyn West (RBI). Karlee Busscher doubled, and West tripled. Amanda Diaz was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Grant 8, Lake Forest 4: Erin Bengston and Maddie Nourigat were both 3-for-3 for the host Bulldogs in their North Suburban crossover win.
Becca Wold and Sarah Ayala added 2 hits apiece for Grant. Bengston, Ayala and Jenna Wilson all doubled in the win. Ayala and Kenzie Sancken each drove in a pair of runs.
Sydney Goessele pitched all 7 innings for the win, allowing only 1 earned run.
Lake Zurich 9, North Chicago 0: Aine Mattera threw a four-inning no-hitter with 9 strikeouts, as the Bears captured the North Suburban crossover.
Mattera (double) and Abby Jokerst were both 2-for-2, while McKenna Zobel went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI.
Zion-Benton 5, Antioch 0: Sam Cunningham and Meg Crosswhite homered for the Zee-Bees in the North Suburban crossover.
Antioch (20-6) got a double from Jessica Tyrell and four singles off Zee-Bees starter Allison Lopez, who went the distance in the circle. Lopez struck out seven and walked one.
Libertyville 14, Round Lake 2: Winning pitcher Jessie Lauret went 3-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored for the Wildcats in their North Suburban crossover win.
Hannah Heraty doubled, singled and drove in 2 runs. Libertyville also got doubles from Jamie Stevens (2 RBI), Sam Hilldale and Lyndsey Lyon. Michaela Mooney and Emily Hilldale each had a single and 2 RBI.
Lauret pitched a five-inning two-hitter, striking out seven and walking three.
Carmel sweeps Bishop McNamara: The Corsairs won a pair of games, 10-8 and 8-4, to hike their record to 26-2.
In Game 1, Jenny Behan was 2-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Amanda Elert went 4-for-5, driving in 3 runs, and Jen Giesey finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Behan followed up with a 3-for-3 effort in Game 2. She tripled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Elert had another big game as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Giesey was 2-for-3 and scored 2 runs.
