Chicken Paprikash simmers in slow cooker for tasty family dinner

This is an Old World-New World kind of recipe.

My grandparents emigrated from Hungary and I grew up eating Chicken Paprikash, which is a chicken dish with a rich paprika sauce.

As a working mom of four kids, I like to make homemade meals like I had growing up but prefer using recipes that fit with my limited time. Dinnertime is especially hectic at my house with sports and after-school activities so any kind of slow cooker recipe that my kids will actually eat is a winner.

I adapted my Mom's old world recipe for the slow cooker and have to say, my family and I actually prefer the taste of this one better.

Browning the chicken is a step that shouldn't be skipped as it helps to intensify the smokiness of the paprika and gives the chicken a rich color. Although the paprika sauce is usually made by adding a little sour cream at the end, I often make it without for my family.

So, that step is listed as optional which is a bonus for people with dairy allergies or who don't mix meat and dairy.

This recipe has been pinned to Pinterest from my site more than 1,000 times and is an easy way for busy families to sit down to an old-fashioned meal.
