Thomsen keys record effort for Elk Grove

Kylie Thomsen had a game to remember at Rolling Meadows on Tuesday.

The Elk Grove sophomore pitcher (9-3) not only got the win in a five-inning, 18-2 decision, but she also had the two home runs that set the team record for a single season.

Thomsen's 2-run blast in the fourth inning and 3-run shot in the fifth were the 46th and 47th of the season for Elk Grove, which set the record of 45 last spring.

Junior Alex Masnica's 3-run homer with two outs in the third inning tied the school record.

Thomsen ended up 4-for-4 with a double while also striking out five and allowing 3 hits in four innings.

"She did a little bit of everything for us," said Elk Grove coach Ken Grams, whose team improved to 22-7 and 8-4 in the Mid-Suburban East, 1 game ahead of Buffalo Grove (15-6, 7-5). BG visits EG today at 4:30 p.m.

Other multiple hitters for EG were Masnica (2-for-4, 5 RBI), Brianna Leach (2-for-2, 3 RBI), 2 run), Melissa Picchi (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Shannon Taucher (2-for-4, 1 run).

Paige Connor (2 RBI) doubled twice for Meadows (2-21, 0-12) while Mallory King had their other hit.

Schaumburg 10, Hoffman Estate 0 (5 inn.): Junior Paige Alt (12-0) fired a no-hitter with 8 strikeouts and also went 3-for-4 at the plate with 5 RBI including a single, double and home run.

Elaine Walker (3-for-3) also belted a MSL record 20th homer (her 11th in the conference) while going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Other multiple hitters for the Saxons (21-1, 12-0) were Natalie Napier (2-for-4 RBI), Sarah Schwind (2-for-4) and Shannon Felde (3-for-4, RBI).

Roxanne Kakareka and Michelle Birkholz also had hits for Schaumburg, which holds a 2-game lead over Barrington and Fremd with four to play in the MSL West.

Prospect 19, Wheeling 10: Freshman Alyssa Cacini struck out eight as the winning pitcher and also went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI for visiting Prospect (9-13, 4-8).

Other top hitters for the Knights were Rachel Trebswether (2-for-6, RBI), Casey Lenski (2-for-5, double, 4 RBI), Ally Schuldt (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBI), Lauren Caldrone (2-for-5, 3 RBI), Jenny Krengiel (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Erica Nelson (2-for-4, 2 doubles, RBI).

Leading the offense for Wheeling (3-16, 2-10) were Nikki Mikosz (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Christina Ambrose (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Lauren Hart (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Sydney Kaplan (1-for-).

Benet 13, St. Viator 2: The Lions tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third before Benet scored 11 unanswered runs.

Catherine Hafner singled to start the second-inning rally. Haley Robinson followed with a bunt single.

After Cam VanValkenburg sacrificed both runners into scoring position, Krystal Harris doubled them home with her second hit of the game.
