Malisheski pitches Wauconda past Lakes

Kevin Malisheski and his Wauconda baseball teammates played spoiler Tuesday.

Malisheski pitched a complete-game 3-hitter, striking out 11 and walking none, as the host Bulldogs edged Lakes 1-0, bumping the Eagles out of a first-place tie with Grant in the North Suburban Prairie. Grant beat Antioch to improve to 8-1 in the division.

Lakes fell to 17-7-1 and 7-2 in the NSC Prairie.

Bulldogs junior Luke Weller had a single and drove in the game's only run in the third inning. Wauconda (11-12) had only 5 hits, including doubles by Brian McFarlin and Trevor Sefcik, against Eagles ace Chase Slota (5-2). Slota struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.

Cody Brumm and Matt Nordlund had doubles for Lakes.

Grant 5, Antioch 3: Michael Bengston hit a 2-run homer for the host Bulldogs, who, coupled with Lakes' loss, took over sole possession of first place in the North Suburban Prairie with three division games remaining.

Matt Mason had a single and an RBI for Grant (21-7, 8-1). Bryan Libby (5-2) earned the complete-game win, striking out six and allowing 2 earned runs.

Travis Slywka had 2 hits and an RBI for Antioch.

Vernon Hills 17, Round Lake 2: Connor McNamara tripled twice, and Robby Nardini doubled, singled and drove in 3 runs for the Cougars in the North Suburban Prairie game.

Nine batters hit safely for Vernon Hills (17-10). Justin Falk and Kyle Hull each had a double, and Bradley Fisher added an RBI. Sam Perlin pitched 2 innings for the win.

Tyler Sanchez was 2-for-2 with a walk for Round Lake. Brandon Hohs had a double for the Panthers.

Libertyville 17, Warren 9: The visiting Wildcats scored 7 runs in the second inning and rapped out 14 hits in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Libertyville's Nos. 1 and 2 hitters, Riley Lees and Jake Vogt, both went 4-for-5 and scored a combined 7 runs. Vogt doubled twice, while Ben Manski (2-for-3) homered. Jimmy Govern was 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Chase Patterson was 1-for-4 with 3 RBI. Vogt, Manski and Sean Ferraro (1-for-2) each drove in a pair.

Ben Kimpler earned the win, despite allowing 8 runs (5 earned) in 5 innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Warren got a 4-for-4 performance from Ben Perner. Jake Falish was 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI.

Grayslake North 12, Woodstock 9: Bobby Krebs cranked out a home run, scored three times and drove in 3 runs for the host Knights in their Fox Valley Fox win.

George Deligiannis was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 walks for Grayslake North, while Merrick Gentile finished 3-for-5 with a double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Danny Yates went 3-for-4, doubling twice and driving in a pair of runs. Brendan Taskovic was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 walks and an RBI.

Pat Schaefer threw 5 innings for the win, allowing 6 runs but only two earned. He struck out four and walked two.
