Cougars blank Bees

The Kane County Cougars pitched their first shutout of the season, earning a 2-0 victory over the Burlington Bees on Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark in Geneva.

The Cougars' Brent Jones worked 5 scoreless innings before being knocked out in the sixth. Reliever Jency Solis (2-2) stranded both runners he inherited and worked 2 perfect frames.

The Cougars scored in the seventh when Victor Reyes kept the frame alive with a two-out single. Colin Bray's groundball went through the legs of the first baseman Ryan Seiz, allowing Reyes to score and Bray to reach second. Ryan Gebhardt added an insurance run with a bloop RBI single.

The Cougars' Zac Curtis (3) worked a perfect ninth inning to earn a save.

The series continues today at 11 a.m. when the Cougars send Jeferson Mejia (0-1, 5.88 ERA) against Austin Robichaux (1-2, 3.97).
