Cary-Grove High student has meningitis

A Cary-Grove High School student has bacterial meningitis, school officials said in a release posted to the district's website.

The McHenry County Health Department informed the district of the diagnosis and is contacting people who have been in close contact with the student. The health department is encouraging those who may have been exposed to visit their primary physician, the release says.

Bacterial meningitis is spread through respiratory and throat secretions and is not spread by casual contact or breathing the same air, according to information from the McHenry County Health Department.

Anyone with questions should call the McHenry County Department of Health at (815) 334-4500.
