Bears release Greene, Lane

After two mostly disappointing seasons, 2013 fourth-round draft pick Khaseem Greene was waived on Monday, and the Bears also terminated the contract of vested veteran Austen Lane.

Greene started six career games at linebacker when others were injured, including four as a rookie. But he didn't play at all in six games last season, including five when he was a game-day inactive and failed to make an impact on special teams.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Lane is a four-year veteran who would have been making the transition from a 4-3 defensive to outside linebacker in the Bears' new 3-4 scheme. He was signed late last season but did not play in any games.

The Bears also signed three players who participated in last weekend's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Quarterback Pat Devlin (Delaware) signed a one-year contract and two undrafted rookies, defensive tackle Terry Williams (East Carolina) and linebacker Kyle Woestmann (Vanderbilt), signed three-year contracts. Devlin spent three years with the Miami Dolphins and one with the Minnesota Vikings but has not played in an NFL game. He gives the Bears five quarterbacks on the roster, including Jay Cutler, Jimmy Clausen, 2013 sixth-round draft pick David Fales and Shane Carden, who was signed last week as an undrafted free agent.

The roster currently stands at 89, one shy of the maximum.
