Antique lovers spend Mother's Day shopping at Grayslake antique sale and flea market

Crowds visited hundreds of vendors at the Lake County Fairgrounds this weekend for the Zurko Antique and Flea Market in Grayslake.

On Sunday, shoppers spent Mother's Day hunting for a variety of antiques and collectibles, including country furniture, jewelry, postcards, art glass, porcelain items, old toys, coins, vintage clothing and linens.

"In spite of the rain, we have had a good weekend and a pretty steady crowd," said Adam Zurko of the Zurko family. "Our focus this month is garden and gardening collectibles and antiques, but we have a variety ranging from vintage to jewelry and primitives. It is a great venue for people to come out with their families and spend the afternoon shopping and antiquing."

Vendors occupied the exhibition hall and set up tables outside at the event, which draws thousands of people to the two-day market.

Zurko's Midwest Promotions is planning a special midnight flea market on Saturday, May 23, from 3 p.m. to midnight at the fairgrounds.
