Three hurt in I-55 motorcycle crash near Bolingbrook

A four-motorcycle crash Thursday evening near Bolingbrook shut down Interstate 55 for more than 30 minutes during rush hour, state police said.

Four motorcycles traveling together somehow crashed about 5:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-55 over Route 53, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. R.A. Caves. The collision sent three of the drivers to nearby hospitals with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, Caves said.

Two of the injured motorcyclists were taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, while another was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan in Downers Grove.

A fourth person was not hurt, Caves said.

Northbound I-55 was shut down completely for more than a half-hour until the left and middle lanes opened. All lanes were open again around 6:30 p.m. he said.

"We do not believe it was alcohol- or drug-related right now," Caves said. "I'm not sure what lane the crash happened in, but it ended up closing all three lanes."

Three of the four motorcycles were towed from the scene, he said, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
