Village, park district seeking feedback on Wheeling rec center makeover

Wheeling residents are invited to give their ideas about a possible expansion of the park district's Community Recreation Center during two sessions with architects Thursday, June 11.

The village wants to relocate the roughly 500 seniors who use the senior center's programming to the park district's rec center on Wheeling's municipal campus. That prompted talk of an addition, but architects also are examining how to improve the 77,674-square-foot space.

Two "listening sessions" will be held at 1 and 6 p.m. at the rec center, 333 W. Dundee Road.

Users of the village's senior center and the park district facility will be able to see potential concept drawings and give feedback with architects and consultants, said Shari Huizar, the village's head of human services.

For further information, call the village's Senior Services Division at (847) 459-2670 or the park district at (847) 465-3333.
