Let's go fly a kite for free in Palatine

Palatine parks presents its free Flying 4 Kids May 9

Palatine Park District presents Flying 4 Kids, a free family kite flying event, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Margreth Riemer Reservoir, located near the corner of Palatine and Quentin roads, in Palatine. Bring your kites to the park and join the community for this 10th annual free event. The event will include free kite kits for the first 100 children courtesy of Kiwanis Club of Palatine and Palatine Park District. Children must be present to receive a free kite kit. Raffles will also be held and the first 200 families will receive a free goody bag with a free raffle entry ticket.

This event is presented in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Palatine, who will be on hand offering free kite repair assistance at their kite repair booth. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Flying 4 Kids is part of a series of statewide kite flies that have been created in an effort to raise awareness of parks, recreation, and the Park District Youth License Plate program which helps raise funds for after school programs. The sale and subsequent renewals of each kite-themed plate generate $25 for the PowerPlay! Beyond School Grant Program, which funds youth programs in park and recreation agencies throughout Illinois. The goal of the PowerPlay! program is to increase the number of opportunities designed to show youth the lifelong benefits of fitness, health and nutrition.
