Fremd rallies past Barrington, tightens up West race

Jake LaGasse's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning helped Fremd become the first Mid-Suburban League baseball team to defeat Barrington this season.

Joe Uhrich crossed the plate with the winning run as Fremd edged the MSL West leaders 4-3 on Monday.

Tom Austin and Ethan Hajdukovic had 2 hits apiece in the heart of the lineup for Fremd (12-11, 6-4), which is 3 games behind the Broncos in the West race.

Fremd starter Dan Pinderski allowed 3 runs in 6 inning before leaving with a no-decision as the Vikings tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Alex Stremel pitched 1 scoreless relief inning and got the win.

Casey Dodge doubled as part of a 3-for-3, 2-RBI day at the plate for Barrington (18-7, 9-1), and Patrick Dehnert, Luke Johnson and Jimmy Day had 2 hits apiece.

St. Viator 3, Marian Central Catholic 2: Visiting St. Viator came up with a run in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead and went on to claim another East Suburban Catholic Conference victory.

Trusten Annin had the big hit in the sixth, a single which scored Cole Kmet.

Dan Sullivan continued to swing a hot bat, homering in the fourth inning and also contributing 2 singles. Ben Dickey doubled and Matt Darling tripled as the Lions produced 8 hits.

Aaron Tres pitched a complete game for St. Viator, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks. The Lions (18-7) committed 4 errors, but Tres regularly worked out of trouble as Marian Central Catholic stranded 12 runners.

Wheeling 5, Rolling Meadows 4: Brenden Spillane had a 2-run triple and Alex Khatcherian drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to help Wheeling scored 3 first-inning runs on their way to an MSL East road triumph.

Spillane finished 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Jake Jordan (double) and Nathan Cooney (triple) had extra-base hits for Wheeling (7-15, 2-8).

Brian Lorey earned a complete-game win, striking out seven and allowing 5 hits and 2 walks.

Brett Gibson and Alex Rezny had 2 hits apiece for Rolling Meadows (4-19, 2-8).

Conant 8, Hoffman Estates 2: Starter Patrick Smith and reliever Ryan Roberts combined on a 3-hitter to help host Conant prevail in an MSL West matchup.

Jack Reiger doubled and tripled, finishing with 3 RBI to help lead as 12-hit effort for the Cougars. Jack Lunkes went 4-for-4, and James Brady had a pair of hits.

Devin Willis had 2 hits for the Hawks (10-9, 3-7) and drove in a run.

Smith struck out six and allowed 1 hit for Conant (13-9, 5-5).

Buffalo Grove 13, Hersey 7: The visiting Bison trailed by a run heading into the seventh inning, then produced an 8-run rally to win going away in MSL East action.

Justin Hasek homered, finishing 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Joey Pinakidis, John Carpinelli and Tyler Rundquist each had 2 hits for Buffalo Grove (10-14, 5-5).

Freshman Jack Vaselaney went the distance for the Bison, allowing 10 hits but only 3 earned runs while striking out six.

Will Trossen had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs for Hersey (7-12-1, 5-5).

Schaumburg 2, Palatine 1: Jack Bellinger tossed a complete game gem, striking out 12 and walking three while allowing 2 hits to propel the visiting Saxons in MSL West play.

Alex Kiszkowski had 2 hits for the Saxons (13-9, 5-5). Andrew Ralston walked twice, stole a base and scored both runs for Schaumburg, and Christian Poulsen picked up an RBI.

Chris Macahon had both hits for Palatine (8-16, 3-7) out of the leadoff spot. Alexander Breytenbach also went the distance, allowing 8 hits and striking out two.

Willowbrook 3, Leyden 2: Tom Szopinski connected on a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning to help the Eagles earn a West Suburban Gold victory and salvage the last game in their three-game set with the Warriors.

Jacob Nunez finished 3-for-3, while Hector Herrera doubled and drove in a run and Kevin Nevarez came up with a triple.

Leyden (9-14) got a complete-game effort from Michael Wilms, who struck out three and walked none while allowing 3 hits.

Christian Liberty 11, Morgan Park 1 (5 inn.): Peter Grob homered and Aiden Miller doubled to lead a 7-hit attack as the Chargers took advantage of 4 errors to win a nonconference matchup.
