Heritage Day at Peck Farm Park in Geneva include sheep herding, butter making

The history of Peck Farm was on display at Heritage Day at Peck Farm Park in Geneva Saturday.

Visitors were able to watch sheep herding and weaving demonstrations and get more hands-on by making their own butter. They also held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated History Gallery, welcome center and History Porch that help tell the story of the Peck family and their impact on the community.

"Heritage Day really brings people out to embrace the history of Peck Farm Park," said Traci Wicks, Geneva Park District spokeswoman. "The old school activities help bring kids back to history and back to nature."

Once a working farm dating from the late 1860s, Peck Farm Park Interpretive Center is now a 385-acre natural retreat that features the new History Gallery, an observation silo, butterfly house, a handicapped-accessible outdoor amphitheater, sensory garden, nature and bike trails, a 19-acre wetland and the new Hawks Hollow Nature Playground.
