North Central events celebrate college's past and future

North Central College will have two public celebrations on Friday, May 15: the annual midday Cornerstone Day Picnic to honor the school's past and an evening kickoff celebration for the Brilliant Future Campaign.

The free Cornerstone Day Picnic will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Jefferson Plaza on the lawn east of Brainard Street at Jefferson Avenue. The event will feature sample cuisine provided by several Naperville restaurants as well as Chartwells, the college's food service provider.

North Central student performers will entertain. In the event of rain, the picnic will move to the Wentz Concert Hall lobby at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

Cornerstone Day commemorates the college's 1870 move to Naperville and the laying of the cornerstone for Old Main.

The black tie-optional Brilliant Future Campaign Kickoff Celebration begins with a reception at 6 p.m. in the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St. A program and dinner commence at 7 p.m., followed by dancing. Admission is $50 and tables of 10 may be reserved. Reservations may be made by visiting northcentralcollege.edu/celebrate or calling (630) 637-5213.

The Brilliant Future Campaign includes an upgrade to the college's academic facilities, with a new science center as the essential cornerstone. The campaign also will grow the endowment to support student scholarships, excellence in teaching by world-class faculty and academic opportunities for students.
