Lakes, Warren earn nonconference victories

Lakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and kept adding, thanks to a 16-hit performance in an 11-5 win against Johnsburg on Friday in a nonconference baseball matchup.

Matt Putman, Justin Blasinski and Matt Nordlund each had 3 hits for Lakes. Putman had a triple and Blasinski had a double.

Winning pitcher Ben Haviland recorded 4 strikeouts in improving his record on the mound to 3-0. Lakes is now 15-5-1 on the season.

Warren 16, Highland Park 4: Andrew Hill had 2 hits, including a home run, to lead Warren to the big win in nonconference play. Hill also drove in 3 runs. Ryan Davila and Jake Falish added 2 hits apiece for the Blue Devils (15-8). Winning pitcher Ryan Hannigan gave up no hits over four innings.

Thursday's corrected result

Lakes 5, Crystal Lake South 3: The visiting Eagles scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning, then cut short a Gators rally to earn a nonconference victory.

Chase Slota pitched 6⅓ innings for Lakes, allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts in earning the victory. Ben Milewski got the final two outs to earn a save.

Justin Blasinski doubled and finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI for Lakes. Matt Nordlund had 2 hits and drove in a run, and Brett Buchholz also had an RBI.
