Baseball: Lake County roundup

Stevenson senior Willie Bourbon drove in the winning run with a hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Patriots rally past Fremd 10-9 on Thursday in a nonconference baseball matchup.

The visiting Vikings had gone ahead by a run in the top half of the seventh before the Patriots answered with 2 runs in the bottom half.

Brandon Grant finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for Stevenson (15-6-1), and Jack Trotter doubled twice to end up 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Bourbon also hit safely twice and the Patriots out-hit Fremd (10-10) 13-6.

Brandon Litcher, the last of four Patriots pitchers, earned the win after tossing 1 inning and allowing 1 run with 2 strikeouts.

Carmel Catholic 5, Benet 3: Garrett McClellan drove in the winning run with a suicide squeeze as the host Corsairs rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to best the Redwings for a second straight time in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Skylar Williams (2-2) earned the win with 2 innings in relief of Chris Bauman (5 IP, 1 ER).

Joey Lake finished 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, and Matt Collins went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and steals and 3 runs scored for the Corsairs (7-10 overall).

Lakes 5, Crystal Lake South 3: The visiting Eagles scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning, then cut short a Gators rally to earn a nonconference victory.

Chase Slota pitched 6⅓ innings for Lakes, allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts in earning the victory. Ben Milewski got the final two outs to earn a save.

Justin Blasinski doubled and finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI for Lakes. Matt Nordlund had 2 hits and drove in a run, and Brett Buchholz also had an RBI.

Vernon Hills 12, Marian Central 4: The host Cougars got great run production from their 14 hits in a nonconference victory.

Connor McNamara doubled and drove in 2 runs, while Joey Marras, Matt Paszko and Matt Gramins came up with 2 hits apiece for Vernon Hills (12-7).

Ben Geren struck out six in a complete-game victory.

Grant 5, Crystal Lake Central 3: Sam Fernandez earned a victory and Grant Bengtson had a double among the Bulldogs' 10 hits in a nonconference victory.

Grayslake North 8, Lake Forest Academy 3 (8 inn.): The visiting Knights tied it with a run in the seventh, then broke through with a 5-run eighth inning as Tyler Elias had the big hit, a 2-run double, in a nonconference win.

Stefan Davis drove in 3 runs on 3 singles for Grayslake North (6-14) and Jake Damore had 2 hits.

Elias earned the victory by providing 3 scoreless relief innings during which he struck out four and allowed 1 hit.
