Medical episode leads to three-vehicle crash in Arlington Hts.

A three-car accident that sent one to the hospital Thursday afternoon was caused by a driver who was having a medical episode, Arlington Heights police said.

Sgt. Tom Boggs said the unidentified driver was heading east on Central Road in a sedan. Just past the Arlington Heights Road intersection, the driver veered left and slammed into a sedan heading west. The second car was then rear-ended by a pickup truck.

Boggs said first responders rushed to the scene at 4:56 p.m. and provided medical treatment to all three drivers, but only the person who had the medical episode was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Boggs said the crash affected westbound traffic for just over 30 minutes.

The two sedans had to be towed from the scene.
