Pedestrian hit by car in Wheeling remains hospitalized in critical condition

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Friday night in Wheeling remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said Monday.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was walking near Elmhurst (Route 83) and north Dennis roads about 5:30 p.m. Friday when the vehicle hit him, according to Wheeling police. The driver, who was not injured, was making a left turn from Elmhurst onto Dennis at the time, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remains in the intensive-care unit, police said.

The driver had not been charged or cited in the crash as of Monday. Authorities are awaiting the results of a report by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, which could take weeks, police said.
