Spare fine arts from cutting block

Diamond Lake District 76 will be making a huge mistake by letting Mrs. Blanchard go. I am sure that the board values and understands why Mrs. Blanchard has been such an integral part of the music program in our district.

The problem is allocation of funds. I feel that keeping Mrs. Blanchard should be a priority. The district has spent a great deal of money (twice) researching who should be our next superintendent. I do understand that this is a recommended practice. However, I'm not sure that it has been the best use of taxpayer money.

The people who really matter are the ones in the classroom actually touching the lives of our children, making tangible positive impacts in their lives. Mrs. Blanchard is one of those people.

She supported my son tremendously in realizing his musical talents, which clearly impacts self-esteem and self-confidence.

Cuts have to be made elsewhere. My children have benefited from gifted type programs, but the fine arts benefits everyone.

My children will be successful regardless of accelerated programs, but some children will not realize other strengths without exposure and encouragement in the fine arts.

Please find a way to keep Mrs. Blanchard. Having culture through the fine arts will help our kids to be competitive in the future.

I have younger daughters who have yet to experience Mrs. Blanchard's expertise. Please don't take that opportunity away from them.
