Two local Senior Spelling Bee winners head to regionals

The St. Charles Public Library, in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, hosted the local Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee for Illinois adults, age 50 and older, on Friday, April 24, at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. in St. Charles.

This year's first-place winner was John Wohlert, with Brian Sullivan taking second place.

The winning word was "elucidate."

Both will advance to the Regional Bee for a chance to compete at the state level held in August at the Illinois State Fair on Aug. 10.

This statewide event provides Illinois adults, age 50 or older, the opportunity to showcase a lifetime of knowledge and to celebrate years of experience through their spelling activities that allow continual learning and keep the brain active.

For information or to sign up for this free event, call the St. Charles Park District Adult Activity Center registration desk at (630) 513-4323.
