DCFS investigating death of Arlington Heights toddler

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating claims of abuse and neglect in the death of a 2-year-old Arlington Heights girl, although police say they have no evidence of foul play.

Hailey Yale died at a Chicago hospital Friday night.

Arlington Heights police were called Thursday night to her home, where she was found unresponsive, police said. She was first taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and later transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, where she died.

Arlington Heights police are awaiting the full results of an autopsy. The Cook County medical examiner's office will not determine a cause of her death until additional testing can be done, and those studies could take weeks or even months.

Police say they have no indication of foul play in Hailey's death, said Sgt. Joe Pinnello, the head of the department's criminal investigations bureau. No one is in custody, he added.

DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said the agency's probe is expected to be completed in 60 days.

Hailey's sibling has been placed with relatives through a DCFS-monitored safety plan, Resa said.
