Trinity International University Music Events April 24 and 26

The Trinity International University Department of Music presents two special music events on Friday evening, April 24, and Sunday afternoon, April 26.

The Trinity Symphonic Band performs on Friday evening, April 24, at 7:30 pm in the A. T. Olson Chapel. Tickets for the concert are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-317-8021.

Band music has been a part of life at Trinity for half a century. Musical excellence is at its core and is reflected in the repertoire of classic and contemporary wind band literature. Both music and liberal art majors make up the ensemble that serves to promote a lifetime of service to church, school, and community through music-making. Professor Charles King directs the band.

The band concert program includes Robert Russell Bennett's "Suite of Old American Dances," Aaron Copland's "Variations on a Shaker Melody," and Gustav Holst's "Second Suite in F." The evening of music also includes Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Concerto for Trombone and Band," featuring junior Hope Johnson of Round Lake Beach on the trombone.

On Sunday afternoon, April 26, baritone and Trinity faculty member John Hacker presents a voice recital in celebration of his recently released CD, "Until Then." The concert begins at 3:00 pm in the A. T. Olson Chapel, and admission to this event is free.

Hacker's accompanists are Glen Ramsborg and Mi-Young Kim on the piano, with special guests Praise2Him from The Orchard Evangelical Free Church. Selections for the concert include a collection of hymns and songs of the past, described by Hacker as "sung with warmth and excitement, accompanied with care and a little flair."

Both concerts are held in the A. T. Olson Chapel on Trinity's Deerfield campus at 2065 Half Day Road.
