Hersey efficiently edges Elk Grove

Hersey made the most of 9 hits and played error-free defense behind starter Brendan Stonequist and reliever Nick Zouras to earn an 8-5 victory over visiting Elk Grove on Monday in Mid-Suburban East baseball.

Ryan Allain and Will Trossen drove in 2 runs for the Huskies (3-9-1, 2-1), while leadoff man Brett Harris went 4-for-5 with a double and 4 runs scored and Adam Schill had a pair of hits.

Brandon Post doubled, tripled and drove in 3 runs for Elk Grove (10-4, 2-1), and Chuck Fleming and Sean Fege had 2 hits apiece.

• The rest of the Monday games in the Mid-Suburban League - Wheeling at Prospect, Barrington at Palatine, Conant at Fremd, Schaumburg at Hoffman Estates and Buffalo Grove at Rolling Meadows - were postponed and will be played Tuesday, with the same location 4:30 p.m. start time.
