New 10-home subdivision will be built in Glen Ellyn

Glen Ellyn residents will eventually have a new group of homes in which to raise their families.

The Glen Ellyn village board approved an annexation and development agreement Monday that calls for the construction of a subdivision on the west side of Sunnybrook Road between Bemis Road and Jenna Court.

The subdivision, called Brookhaven, will consist of 10 single-family home lots.

The developer for the subdivision, McKeown Classic Homes, also constructed the Brookshire subdivision off Jenna Court years ago, Village Planner Michele Stegall said.

The property on which the new subdivision would be located was in unincorporated DuPage County, but with the board's Monday approvals, it will now be part of Glen Ellyn.

Before voting, Trustee Tim Elliott said during a previous village plan commission meeting, residents in that neighborhood voiced concerns about stormwater runoff from the Brookshire subdivision as well as the proposed one.

"Their concern in general was they felt like since the Jenna Court development (Brookshire) went up, they're getting a lot more stormwater coming down the road and across the road," Elliott said.

Developer Jerry McKeown said there should not be any stormwater-related issues with the Brookhaven development.

"Actually it should improve the water flow off site on Brookhaven because it is further downhill actually than Brookshire was," McKeown said.

McKeown said the proposed subdivision's homeowners association would be responsible for maintaining the subdivision's detention pond as well as any inlets on private property through which runoff water could travel through to the pond.

Stegall said as part of any subdivision review process, there is language included that says if the association fails to fulfill its responsibilities, the village can perform maintenance and bill for the costs.
