Softball: Lake County roundup

Jill Foote's 5-RBI game highlighted one of three wins for host Antioch's softball team at McMillen Field on Saturday.

The Sequoits improved to 14-2 on the season with wins over Washington (6-2), Addison Trail (4-1) and Richmond-Burton (15-5).

Foote got the Sequoits started on the right foot in the morning, as she homered, doubled and singled (3-for-4) against Washington, driving in five. Hannah Cook picked up the win.

Antioch then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first en route to its victory over Addison Trail. Foote finished 2-for-3, while Jessica Pedersen and Ashley Stephens each had RBI doubles in the first. The Sequoits' other run in the inning scored on Jessica Tyrell's sacrifice fly. Cook pitched 4 innings, striking out seven. Taylor Schiltz added a triple.

Antioch had another big first inning in its final game, plating 8 runs against Richmond-Burton. Tyrell's 3-run double was the big blow. She finished 2-for-3. Stephens also doubled, while Stephanie Bonaguidi threw 2 scoreless innings.

Warren 1, Marengo 0: The visiting Blue Devils scored the nonconference game's only run in the fourth.

Hannah Nommensen earned the win, as Warren improved to 16-1.

Grayslake Central sweeps Highland Park: Teagan Truskowski hit 2 home runs, as the Rams beat Highland Park 15-0 in five innings to complete a sweep of the nonconference doubleheader.

Brandy Heraty also homered for Grayslake Central and added a 2-run single. The winners got RBI doubles from Lindsay Brust and Anna Jensen. Morgan Smigielski contributed a run-scoring single.

Grayslake Central won the opener 5-3, as Reagan Radke pitched all 7 innings for the win and went 2-for-2 with a double.

Prairie Ridge 7, Lake Zurich 4: Jessie Puccinelli hit a 2-run homer in a 3-run fourth inning that pulled the host Bears within 5-3, but the Wolves hung on to win the nonconference game.

Lake Zurich got RBI singles from McKenna Zobel and Brittney Pettinger (2-for-4). Aine Mattera had a double for the Bears.

McHenry 5, Wauconda 2: The host Warriors erased a 2-1 deficit, scoring 3 runs in the fifth against Kayla Wedl in the nonconference game.

Wedl struck out 13 and walked two. She was charged with 5 earned runs. She also drove in both runs for Wauconda (10-7), going 1-for-3 with a double.

Grayslake North 6, Lakes 5: The Knights got 2-for-4 efforts at the plate from Jessica Vaughn, Jenna Pozezinski and Katie Moats.

Pozezinski (2 RBI), Brooke Phillips and Lauren Olsen all doubled in the win.

Molly Dietz led Lakes offensively, going 3-for-4 with a homer and double. The Eagles got 2 hits apiece from Rachel Becker (double, 2 RBI), Karlie Rotunno, Melanie Grupka and Georgia Ohren.

Lakes 13, Johnsburg 1: Molly Dietz was 3-for-4 with a 3-run double and another double to pace the Eagles.

Rachel Becker went 2-for-4 and also drove in 3 runs for Lakes. Melanie Grupka was 2-for-2, and Georgia Ohren had a double.

Deerfield 1, Vernon Hills 0: Carly Stern suffered the tough-luck loss for the Cougars, who allowed the game's only run in the fifth.

Sara Lenzi had the lone hit for Vernon Hills.

Hersey 10, Vernon Hills 2: Sami Saliba had a triple and an RBI for the Cougars, and Dani Comitor doubled in a run.

Dana Meline was 2-for-4 for Vernon Hills.
