Development proposals could bring new businesses to Glen Ellyn

Several development proposals are in the works that could provide Glen Ellyn residents with new places to shop, eat and live.

In the village's downtown, Marcel's Culinary Experience owner Jill Foucré has purchased another storefront at 496 N. Main St., across the street from the a toda madre restaurant, Planning and Development Director Staci Hulseberg said this week.

The sister business, to be called Marché, will sell cheese and charcuterie, according to village documents.

Hulseberg said a developer also is interested in building a mixed-use development with residential and commercial space on the site of the former McChesney and Miller grocery store, but further details are not yet available.

Two other development proposals are in the works along Roosevelt Road.

In the first, a breakfast and lunch restaurant called Buttermilk & Honey could open at 10 N. Park Blvd., just behind the Fannie May shop, Hulseberg said.

She said the buyer has submitted plans for the property and will be appearing in front of the village's plan and architectural review commissions soon.

The buyer has proposed using the existing building for the restaurant, tacking on an addition to the site, constructing a parking lot and including an outdoor seating area, Hulseberg said.

The current building on that property has been empty for more than a decade.

"We're very excited that she's proposing this restaurant," Hulseberg said. "It would be a great addition to the village."

In the second, a separate developer has submitted plans to tear down the building that once housed a Grandma Sally's restaurant at 369 Roosevelt Road.

Hulseberg said the developer has proposed a new building for that property that would have two commercial tenant spaces.

Finally, a home developer is proposing a nine-home subdivision on Sunnybrook Road near Route 53 and Interstate 355.

The property is in an unincorporated area, but an ordinance approving the annexation and development agreement will be up for a vote at Monday's village board meeting.
