First Folio announces 2015-2016 season

First Folio Theatre remounts its acclaimed production "The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe: A Love Story" to mark the start of its 20th anniversary season, which the Oak Brook theater announced Thursday.

An original play by executive director David Rice, "The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe" (Sept. 23-Nov. 1) premiered in 2006 and sold out subsequent runs in 2010 and 2012. An examination of the romance between Poe and his wife, Virginia, the play incorporates the writer's poetry along with adaptations of some of his best-known tales including "The Pit and the Pendulum" and "The Tell-Tale Heart." Christian Gray and Kevin McKillip star.

Rice also adapts the 1936 film comedy "My Man Godfrey," about a socialite who takes pity on a vagrant and hires him as the family's new butler, forcing him to navigate their various eccentricities. McKillips stars as Godfrey in the production, which begins previews Jan. 27, 2016.

Next up is "Fooling Buddha" (March 23 to April 24, 2016), a combination comedy and magic show starring writer/star and magician David Kovac. The show chronicles Kovac's upbringing as a Jewish Buddhist in 1970s Milwaukee.

First Folio's season concludes with the company's 20th anniversary production of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (July 6-Aug. 14, 2016). The comedy centers on two sets of lovers whose budding romances are upended by the mischievous actions of the fairy Puck.

Performances take place at the Mayslake Peabody Estate, located at 1717 W 31st St., off Route 83, in Oak Brook. Three- and four-show subscriptions range from $55 to $115. Subscribers receive $5 off each subscription if they purchase before Aug. 1. Subscriptions and single tickets are available by phone (630) 986-8067 or online at firstfolio.org.
