Benet's Abello breaks IHSA home run record

In the first inning of a 10-2 win over Fenwick, Benet catcher Stephanie Abello established a new Illinois High School Association record for varsity home runs.

Abello hit her eighth home run of the season and her 55th for the Benet varsity. It was part of a 3-for-4 day with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored for the University of Illinois recruit. Emily York, a Florida Institute of Technology recruit, went 4-for-4 with a home run, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored in support of pitcher Megan Stoppelman (8-3). Benet moved to 8-3 and 4-0 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Glenbard West 7, Hinsdale South 3:

Bridget McGregor went 3-for-3 and winning pitcher Isabel Hermanson went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, Rachel Terwilliger 2-for-4 with a double in the West Suburban Conference crossover game in Glen Ellyn. Caylin Potter came on for the save.

Glenbard East 17, Larkin 7:

Senior catcher Kelli Tyler led the six-inning hit parade with a home run and double for 3 runs scored and 3 RBI in the Upstate Eight Conference crossover. Anna Mahay doubled twice and drove in 4 runs and Marissa West went 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI. Abby Hlavacek (1-0) went the distance for the Rams (3-7).

Waubonsie Valley 8, Batavia 3:

Shannon Homan cracked 3 hits and drove in 5 runs in Waubonsie Valley's road win in the Upstate Eight Conference crossover. Sabrina Calabrese had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs and outfielder Christian Pembrook knocked 3 hits. Jordan Kurth allowed 4 hits and struck out eight in the complete-game win.

Lake Park 9, York 8:

A 5-run second inning boosted the Lancers in the nonconference outing in Elmhurst. Taylor Barton rapped 4 hits and drove in 2 for Lake Park. York dropped to 6-1 despite Sarah Milkowski's 3 hits and 2 RBI and Kyra Krol's 2 RBI.

Wheaton Academy 6, Lisle 0:

Sophomore starting pitcher Andi Pivaronas (3-2) combined with freshman Courtney Kinnane to hold the nonconference host to 5 hits. Wheaton Academy (4-2) got all the scoring required when Autumn Ratliff singled, stole second and third base, and scored on a passed ball. Ratliff and Meghan Gagliano each collected 2 hits. Lisle fell to 1-4, though pitcher Melissa Ericson (1-4) allowed only 3 earned runs.
