Palatine, Conant take top tourney honors

Palatine took top honors in Maine East's girls water polo tournament on Saturday, handling St. Charles East 7-1 in the title game after earlier victories over Prospect (5-4) and Bradley (11-7).

Pirates senior Caroline Wojtas was a force in each matchup, with a total of 15 goals in the three games.

In the championship game, goalie Tess O'Brien stopped 8 shots and Mathilde Mogensen had 1 goal.

Against Bradley, Caitlin McHugh had 1 goal and 4 steals, and Jackie Kincanon also found the back of the net for Palatine (15-3).

Conant sweeps at Glenbrook South: Mid-Suburban West leader Conant added to its victory total Saturday by taking three wins at Glenbrook South in a round-robin format.

The Cougars pitched a 12-0 shutout against Lincoln-Way West with Carmen Rosas (4 goals) and Sam Wooley leading the way.

Rosas had 6 goals and Bobby Smigla 5 steals in an 11-2 victory over Hinsdale Central, and Rosas (5 goals) led the way in an 11-3 decision over the host Titans.

Maddie Demaret excelled in goal, totaling 36 saves, 11 assists and 11 steals as Conant remained unbeaten and improved to 16-0 this spring.
