Bushy, Schuring share no-hitter for Burlington Central

Burlington Central improved to 10-1 on Saturday with a split doubleheader sweep of the Woodstock high schools that included a combined no-hitter.

The Rockets opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Woodstock North in which Brenden Bushy and Craig Schuring teamed up to no-hit the Thunder. Bushy allowed an earned run, walked 4 and struck out 3 in 4⅔ innings. Schuring issued a lone walk and struck out 3 in 2⅓. Max Judnic doubled and drove in 2 runs, Jake Johnson drove in a pair and Tanner Smith (RBI) went 2-for-4 with a double.

The Rockets defeated Woodstock 6-5 in the afternoon game after surviving a 3-run Blue Streaks rally in the seventh. Winning pitcher Parker Boron allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks and struck out 4 in 4 innings. Wiss (3-4) led the offense with 2 doubles and 4 RBI.

Crystal Lake South 11, Richmond-Burton 3: The Gators outhit the Rockets 14-6 to win this nonconference road game. Mike Avella tripled twice and drove in 3 runs, Garrett Bright doubled twice and drove in 3 and John Constantino and Nick Van Witzenburg each belted 2 doubles and drove in runs. Matt Schingel, who also doubled, earned the win by holding R-B to 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks in 4⅔ innings. He struck out 3 for Crystal Lake South (8-2).

Dundee-Crown 5, Hersey 3: Daniel Medford and Riley Alvarado combined to hold the Huskies to 5 hits with 11 strikeouts in this nonconference win. Alvarado earned the victory with 4 innings of 3-hit ball. He issued a lone walk and struck out 7 as the Chargers (9-4) won their third straight. Jim Welzien (2-4, RBI), Michael Cruise (2-4, 2B, RBI) and Alvarado (1-3, 2B) led the offense.

Hoffman Estates 3, Elgin 0: Elgin's John Nelson scattered 9 hits and allowed 3 earned runs without a walk in 6 innings, but he was out-dueled by the duo of Matt Roesch and Jeff Mayes, who combined to hold the Maroons scoreless on 3 hits and a walk. The loss marked the fourth time this season Elgin (5-7) has been shut out. Dean Anderson had 2 of Elgin's 3 hits.

Hampshire 5, Larkin 4: Hampshire rallied from a 4-2 deficit with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to win this nonconference home game. Trey Schramm tripled in a run to ignite the rally, the tying run scored on a Larkin error and Nick Mohlman delivered the go-ahead single. The rally made a winner of Schramm. The Xavier commit walked 3 and struck out 2 in the top of the fifth. Michael Kruse (RBI) and Matt Kielbasa (RBI) each contributed a double among his 2 hits for Hampshire (6-2-1). Zach Edgar took the loss for Larkin (3-5) despite going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Huntley 5, Waubonsie Valley 2: The Red Raiders won their second straight nonconference game behind the pitching of senior Brandon Altergott. The senior limited the Warriors to an earned run on 5 hits. Altergott did not issue a walk and he struck out 1 in an efficient 54-pitch, 5-inning outing. Jake Liebman went 4-for-4, Matt Blain contributed 2 hits and Bobby Hecker doubled and drove in 2 runs for Huntley (3-7).

St. Edward 5, Indian Creek: Jack Tierney scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch to lift the Green Wave in nonconference action at Elgin's Wing Park. Reliever Noah Enright earned the win with 2⅓ hitless innings. He issued a lone walk and struck out 3. Tierney had 2 of the 3 hits for St. Edward (3-5), including a double.

Westminster Christian 8, Aurora Christian 2: Frank Anguilo went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, Ian Merlak had 3 hits in 5 at-bats and Peter Hahn and Adam Greene each knocked in 2 runs to lead the Warriors to a nonconference win in Aurora. Nathan Martinez tossed a 3-hitter. He limited the Eagles to 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 9 in 7 innings for Westminster Christian (5-6).
