HBO's Web-only service debuts

HBO's new standalone Web service went live today, giving subscribers the ability to watch the premium channel for the first time without a cable-TV subscription.

The streaming service, HBO Now, makes its debut five days before the season premiere of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones."

The service is available for Apple Inc. and Cablevision Systems Corp. customers who have Internet service for a monthly subscription of $14.99, the premium channel owned by Time Warner Inc. said in a press release. Customers who sign up in April will receive a 30-day free trial.
