White House honors Hersey students' film about school's philanthropy

A pair of Hersey High School students recently were recognized at the White House for their film on the school's philanthropy.

Owen Connor and Elise Bang received an Honorable Mention at the 2015 White House Students Film Festival, a competition featuring 1,500 other videos.

The video highlights the charitable giving done by the Hersey community throughout the school year, and the impact it has had. Among the events featured are the Arlington Heights school's ALS ice bucket challenge, a food drive that collected more than 51,000 cans during a two-week period, and a fundraiser that raised $18,000 to help an army sergeant who lost both his legs in Afghanistan.

“I couldn't be more proud of my students or this wonderful building that I come to everyday and call my work,” said Todd Hatfield, the students' media tech teacher at Hersey.

The three-minute video soon will be featured on www.WhiteHouse.gov/FilmFestival or can be seen on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=LovW_1K1wTY.
