LaMotte's masterful as Warren shuts out Zion-Benton

Sam LaMotte threw a complete-game shutout, giving up 4 hits, as Warren's baseball team blanked host Zion-Benton 4-0 in its North Suburban Conference Lake Division opener Tuesday.

Michael Rosenberg went 2-for-3 with a double for Warren (9-3), while Matt Burch and Jake Falish were both 2-for-4. Brad Zahn tripled for the Blue Devils.

Lakes 8, Vernon Hills 2: Matt Putman was 3-for-3 with a triple and run scored, and Cody Nuxoll (run) and Max Swiatek (3 runs, RBI) were both 3-for-4 for the visiting Eagles in the North Suburban Prairie opener.

Zach Meyer was 1-for-2 with 3 RBI for Lakes (3-4-1). Chase Slota (2-0) earned the win, pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and 3 hits, striking out four, walking three and hitting two batters.

Lakes put 7 runs up in the first three innings. Vernon Hills showed some life in the bottom of the third. But with 2 runs in and the bases loaded, Slota struck out the next two hitters.

Connor McNamara, Drew Winegarder and Jack Duffley had hits for Vernon Hills.

Lake Forest 3, Lake Zurich 2: After the visiting Bears scored twice in the sixth to even the score at 2-2, the Scouts plated a run in the bottom of the inning.

Carmel-transfer Cal Coughlin pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Lake Zurich starting pitcher Shane Nolan allowed 2 earned runs in 6 inning, striking out nine, walking three and yielding 5 hits.

Jacob Kubin was 2-for-3 for the Bears, while Tyler Peterson doubled and drove in a run.

Antioch sweeps North Chicago: The two teams played a pair of five-inning contests, with the Sequoits winning 12-2 and 11-1 in North Suburban Prairie action.
