Believe Project: $100 for Mother's Day baskets for women who've left abusive households
Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Teri Archam of Arlington Heights.
Here is an excerpt of her suggestion:
"I am working with the Domestic Violence Division of the Chicago Police Department. We provide life skills, interviewing/resume writing seminars and a Children's Halloween party each year. This year, I would like to add a Mother's Day basket for the moms in shelters. When a woman makes the decision to leave her abuser, she often leaves in the middle of the night with just the children and the clothes on their backs. I would like to provide a sunny smile basket on Mother's Day to to each of the moms who has made the difficult commitment to leave and is now in a shelter. The basket will have nail polish, lotions, shampoo, a toothbrush, a chocolate treat, lipstick, etc. Just for them. I am hoping it will make them feel a little better about themselves when they use the items. I have already purchased 50 baskets and would use the money for additional supplies."
• The Believe Project mails a $100 bill each day to someone with a good idea for how to use it to do a good deed for someone else.
