Barrington gets busy, keeps winning

Playing its eighth and ninth games of the season, Barrington has been the area's busiest softball team.

And the Fillies continued to stay busy winning.

Barrington (8-1) won both games at its quad on Saturday at the Fields of Dreams, defeating McHenry 6-0 and Lane Tech 22-6 in six innings.

Senior Keenan Dolezal (7-1) recorded her fourth shutout of the season against McHenry, striking out six with 1 walk while tossing a 5-hitter.

Fillies sophomore leadoff batter Carly Kordich doubled to start the bottom of the first inning, took third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Kelly Katis (2-for-3) and scored on a passed ball to provide Dolezal with the only run she would need.

Also connecting for doubles for Barrington were juniors Rachel Macdonald and Liz Sweeney.

Sophomore Rachel Krzysko had an RBI single in the first inning and Dolezal added an RBI groundout in the fifth.

The second game marked the debut on the mound for the Fillies freshman right-hander Catherine McMahon.

She became the first freshman to win a game for Barrington since Dolezal (68-14 career mark) in 2012.

McMahon went 4⅓ innings, striking out four and walking one to notch the win.

Leading the offense for the Fillies were junior Jenna Fingerman (3-for-4, home run, 2 RBI), Krzysko (3-for-4, home run, double, 3 RBI), freshman Jenna Patino (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI) and Katis (2-for-4, 2 RBI).

Schaumburg wins two: Schaumburg (3-1) won its two games at the Barrington quad notching wins over McHenry and Lane Tech.

Elk Grove 10, Metea Valley 3: Grenadiers sophomore Sabra Morton raised her record to 3-0 with a 5-hitter that included 5 strikeouts and 1 earned run in Aurora.

Morton's senior catcher Melissa Picchi produced the game-winning RBI by belting a one-out bases-loaded triple to center field in the top of the second inning. It was her first triple of the season and sparked a 5-run rally.

Senior Briana Leach followed with a 2-run homer (courtesy runner Abbey Sloan scored).

Leach (2-for-4, 3 RBI), who homered in her first at-bat of the season against Mundelein, now has 2 for the season.

After belting her triple, Picchi went on to have a big day, going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI.

Aleece Duffy and Marjorie Sloan (RBI) also doubled for the Grenadiers.

Leyden drops two: Visiting Niles North (5-2) took a doubleheader from Leyden (2-2) winning 16-5 in six innings and 17-7 in five innings at the Stadium at the Ballpark at Rosemont.

Warren 14, Palatine 0 (5 innings): Sophomore Hannah Nommensen (6 strikeouts) earned the win for the defending Class 4A state champs over senior Erin Davis (1-3) in Palatine.

Ellie Kozlowski came in to pitch for the Pirates (2-3) in the fourth and fifth innings.

She gave up no earned runs, striking out one and fielding three groundballs back to the mound for outs at first base.

Nommensen had a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Victoria Parrott and Maddie Craver connected with line-drive singles to left center. They were the only two Pirates to hit safely.
