Broncos Read to give free summer reading book to BHS students

A new program that will give next year's Barrington High School students a free book kicks off this week.

Starting Thursday, students will select from a list of 10 books on the district's website. Their chose will be delivered before school lets out for summer and they will then have to read it before Sept. 8, which organizers call the Day of Literacy.

Books include nonfiction titles like "David and Goliath" by Malcom Gladwell and works of fiction like "Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini, who also wrote the best-seller "The Kite Runner."

The program, called Broncos Read, is a joint effort of the BHS English department, Library, and BHS Staff Reading Cohort, according to the district's Facebook page.
