Roesch delivers as Hoffman Estates wins again

Hoffman Estates 5, Maine East 3:

Matt Roesch delivered a double with the bases loaded, driving in the last 3 runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as the host Hawks improved to 2-0 with a 5-3 nonconference baseball victory over visiting Maine East on Tuesday.

In the top half of the inning, Roesch was pitching and had allowed an unearned run. But he finished up with a 1-2-3 seventh inning to get the victory.

Jeff Mayes started for Hoffman Estates and gave up 1 earned run in 5 innings.

Hoffman Estates turned three double plays and benefited from a terrific catch by Doug Rathje in center field in the seventh.

Conant 8, Streamwood 2: The visiting Cougars (1-1) saved most of their scoring for the seventh inning, producing 7 runs in the frame on their way to a nonconference triumph.

Nick Roberts finished 3-for-3, leadoff man Matt Fauth had 2 hits and the Cougars collectively finished with 10 hits and 5 stolen bases.

The late rally made a winner of Jimmy McLaughlin, who pitched 2⅔ innings of scoreless relief and also came up with a double.

Hersey 5, Evanston 5: Nick Zouras doubled twice and drove in 3 runs, but the Huskies allowed 3 runs over the final 2 innings to finish in a tie with the Wildkits.

Ryan Allain scored twice and stole a pair of bases for Hersey (1-1-1).

Prospect 6, St. Charles East 3: Lucas Karz finished 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as the visiting Knights picked up another nonconference win to improve to 6-1 this spring.

Karz also got the final two outs for the Knights, who made the most of 7 singles.

Ryan Molini provided 3 innings of scoreless relief following starter Pasquale Atteo, who allowed 3 earned runs in 3⅓ innings.

New Trier 10, St. Viator 0: The Lions (6-2) couldn't get much going against Trevians starter Danny Katz, who allowed 3 singles as visiting New Trier prevailed in 6 innings.

Maine West 3, Leyden 1: The host Warriors went ahead with a 2-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to a nonconference victory.

Joe Swanson drove in the go-ahead run. He doubled, along with teammates Joe Swanson, Bradley Uidl, Alex Zimmerman in Maine West's 6-hit effort.

Sam Kindle earned a complete-game victory for Maine West (4-1), allowing 1 earned run with 7 strikeouts.
