Stevenson wins twice in Florida

On its Spring Break trip in Florida, Stevenson's baseball team overcame 6 errors to get a 7-5 win over Henry Clay on Monday.

Charlie Ling, Patrick Loeffler and Carter Baretz led the Patriots with 2 hits apiece. Ling also drove in 2 runs. Pitcher Tyler Pauly got the win for Stevenson. He struck out 4 batters in 3⅔ innings.

Also on Monday, Stevenson defeated Westerville North, 12-8.

The Patriots rolled up 11 hits, including 5 hits in the sixth inning. Dylan Molek and Charlie Ling each had 3 hits for Stevenson. Molek drove in 4 runs while Ling and Willie Bourbon each drove in 3 runs.

Grayslake Central 7, Antioch 1: Anthony Fitzgerald had a double and 2 singles to lead Grayslake Central. Greg Gauger's 2-run double highlighted a 4-run fourth inning for the Rams. Winning pitcher David Llorens fanned 10 batters over four innings. It's his second win of the season.

For Antioch, John Petty had a hit and drove in the only run.

Warren 5, Geneva 4: Warren moved to 6-2 on the season, edging Geneva. Chris Mathieu went 2-for-3 with a double while winning pitcher Ryan Davila improved his record on the mound to 2-0. He had five strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings and did not give up a hit.

Andrew Hill and Michael Rosenberg also had doubles.

Grant 8, Barrington 4: Pitcher Andrew Stone rolled up 9 strikeouts and gave up only 1 walk and no earned runs to lead Grant (2-2) to the victory. Matt Spooner went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Bulldogs. He had a double and drove in 2 runs. Teammate Eddie Kusiak finished with 2 hits, including a double. He also drove in a run.

Harrisburg 4, Vernon Hills 1: At Rent One Park, Harrisburg got by Vernon Hills, despite a solid performance by Cougars pitcher Ben Geren. He went five innings and allowed only 1 earned run. Brendan Keogh pitched one inning of scoreless relief. Tom Earhart, Joe Marras and Nick Conrad each had a hit in the losing effort.
