Good Samaritans aiding deputy receive Citizen Awards

Submitted by the Lake County Sheriff's Office

Sheriff Mark C. Curran Jr. recently presented Charles Meilicke a Citizen Award for providing assistance to Deputy Csorba, who was involved in a vehicular accident Jan. 22 on Winchester Road, just east of Midlothian Road in Mundelein.

Meilicke and Oscar Loeza came to the aide of Deputy Csorba, bending the driver's side window frame away from the roof, allowing the deputy to exit the vehicle that eventually caught fire.

Loeza then retrieved the fire extinguisher from the trunk of Deputy Csorba's squad car and put out the fire prior to the arrival of the Mundelein Police Department. The quick actions of both men were both appreciated and commended.

Loeza was unable to attend the presentation, and his award will be delivered.
