Three injured when truck crashes through Big Rock Café

A driver who hit the gas when he meant to brake ended up smashing through the front wall of the Big Rock Café on Thursday afternoon in Big Rock, injuring himself and two restaurant employees, authorities said.

The first Kane County sheriff's deputies on the scene found that the large black truck, which was driven by 71-year-old Richard Mayer of Somonauk, had burst through the wall before coming to a stop in the kitchen.

Two restaurant employees working in the kitchen, Ajradin Ahmed, 51, and Jose Medina, 39, were injured in the crash,

Mayer and Ahmed were transported to Aurora Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Medina was treated and released at the scene.

There were three customers eating inside the restaurant when the crash happened at around 1 p.m., but they were not injured.

Mayer was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The truck was pulled out of the restaurant by a tow truck without incident.

The Big Rock Café, located at 103 W Galena St., will be closed until further notice due to the damage caused by the crash.
