Schneider tosses collegiate no-hitter

Alverno College freshman pitcher Olivia Schneider (Hawthorn Woods/Lake Zurich) was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference softball pitcher of the week for events of March 16-22, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

It was the second time already this season that she earned the honor, after also picking up the recognition for her efforts March 2-8.

Schneider was 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA in a pair of starts for the Inferno last week. The rookie southpaw struck out four and surrendered just 3 hits in an 8-inning complete-game victory over Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday, and had 6 Ks in a complete-game win at Eureka Sunday.

Earlier this month, Schneider pitched a no-hitter in her collegiate pitching debut, as the Inferno earned an 8-0 victory over crosstown foe Mount Mary. Her near-perfect game included 12 strikeouts and just 1 walk. It was just the third no-hitter in school history and first since the 2009 season. Schneider also had 4 Ks in 5⅓ innings of relief vs. Kenyon the following day.
