St. Charles woman dies after crash in parking lot

A St. Charles woman died of multiple traumatic injuries Sunday after she crashed her car in a Jewel-Osco parking lot, coroner's officials said Monday.

Marianne Hinger, 86, was driving through the parking lot of the store on the 600 block of North Kirk Road around 4:30 p.m. Sunday when she stopped her car to let a pedestrian pass and then accelerated into a median and then a tree, St. Charles Public Information Officer Lisa Blackwell said.

Witnesses found Hinger unresponsive with damage to the front end of her vehicle. She was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy Monday by the Kane County coroner's office said preliminary results show multiple traumatic injuries consistent with hitting a fixed object. Toxicology results were sent to the forensic lab for analysis, officials said.
