Endorsement: Swanson for Dist. 118 school board

The race for a two-year term on the Wauconda Unit District 118 school board pits a promising newcomer against a veteran trustee. In this case, the veteran is the better choice. Brian Swanson has an intimate knowledge of all issues, educational as well as financial, facing the district, and can speak articulately and persuasively about how to deal with them. He approaches the job with independence but a clear bent toward leadership combined with a collaborative nature that surely serves him and the board well in dealing with tough topics like those that are sure to face the district in the coming years of increased financial pressure. In addition to his school board work, he also serves in leadership roles in numerous community projects. Challenger Jennifer Fosness is more than a merely sincere candidate. She, too, can point to a record of community and school service, and she has a solid grasp of the issues facing the district as well as strong, well-articulated ideas about how to lead as a board member. We hope she'll remain active in the district and continue to seek leadership roles. But for the immediate seat, the clear choice for two more years on the school board is Brian Swanson. He is endorsed.
