Aurora man who broke legs in Starved Rock fall could face charges

Authorities say a man who broke both legs in a fall from a canyon ledge in Starved Rock State Park could face charges.

Illinois Conservation Police Sgt. Robert Frazier tells the (LaSalle) News-Tribune that 18-year-old Christopher J. Stewart of Aurora climbed over a wooden railing, stepped off a walkway and jumped onto a rim along Wildcat Canyon on Friday.

Frazier says Stewart walked to the top of a waterfall and reportedly fell while trying to break ice at the top of the falls.

Assistant Chief Ed Rogers of the Utica Fire Protection District says Stewart was airlifted to a Peoria hospital.

Frazier says Stewart was with two men older than 21 who were "highly intoxicated." A 19-year-old Aurora woman with the group was charged with marijuana possession.
