Johnston City man pleads guilty in son's suffocation death
MARION, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the suffocation death of his 3-month-old son.
Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti says 23-year-old Brandon Vaughn of Johnston City entered the guilty plea Monday. He faces up to 14 years in prison for the manslaughter charge.
The Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/19yrXIP ) reports Vaughn initially was charged with murdering his son, Brayson, in October 2013. He was accused of throwing a comforter over the baby and going outside to smoke.
Authorities said Brayson was found unresponsive at his home and was declared dead at a hospital.
Zanotti says Vaughn was ordered to have no visitation with another one of his children while incarcerated.
He's scheduled to be sentenced on May 8.
